Filby Playing Field Committee is a registered charity that runs the Village Hall, the Club Room and the Playing Field.
The Committee’s objectives are to meet those demands placed on it by the ever changing needs of the local residents. In 2006, the Committee elected to assume responsibility for fundraising for a new village Community Centre and agreed to undertake all grant applications related to the project.
The Playing Field Committee provides facilities for groups, within the community, to pursue their interests, to meet, to improve their life skills, to tackle common issues and to effect improvements to the local environment.
Whilst the Committee raises funds by hiring out those facilities to enable residents to participate in activities of their choice, its main source of income is derived from events throughout the year. These include..
August Bank Holiday Fete
Bonfire Night Fireworks Display
Easter Bonanza
Christmas Fayre
Support for Filby in Bloom’s Open Gardens Weekend
Whilst its constitution permits a Committee of 24 trustees, its present membership is just 21. Most are stakeholders in the activities that take place in the village. We are a friendly bunch but recognise that we are a typical 'village hall committee' in so far as our membership is largely made up of retired residents. However, many of the activities that were planned for the new hall are focused on young people and new younger trustees are sought, to influence these. If you are interested in becoming a trustee, you must be over 18 years of age and be prepared to spend a couple of hours every two months attending our meetings.
